How to use foundation and concealer correctly

Before Anything Else – Prepare Your Skin First

Gentle Cleansing
Before any makeup, clean skin is a MUST. If your skin is sensitive – go for a milk cleanser or micellar water. If it’s oily – use a gentle gel cleanser.

Hydration Is Essential
Even oily skin needs moisture. A cream or serum before makeup helps products blend beautifully into the skin instead of sitting awkwardly on top.

SPF – Even on Cloudy Days
Even if you don’t wear much makeup, SPF is non-negotiable. Choose a separate sunscreen or a foundation with built-in SPF.

(Optional but Helpful) Primer
Primer can help smooth the skin, blur pores, and extend your makeup’s wear time.

Foundation: Less Is More

The shade should blend seamlessly – test on your jawline, not your hand. The best foundation is the one you don’t notice.

Apply from the center outward – start with the nose and cheeks (where redness usually appears). Blend out toward the hairline and jaw.

Choose Your Application Method:

  • Brush: even, precise coverage
  • Sponge: soft, natural finish
  • Fingers: warmth helps cream textures melt into the skin

Don’t turn your skin into a mask – foundation should even out your tone, not erase your uniqueness. Let your freckles and smile shine through.

Concealer: Small Touches, Big Difference

Only apply where needed – under the eyes, dark spots, blemishes. That’s it. Not all over the face.

  • For under eyes – go a shade lighter, but NOT white. Half a tone lighter than your foundation is enough. Too light will emphasize tiredness instead of hiding it.
  • For blemishes – match your skin exactly. A concealer that’s too light will highlight the spot even more.

Layer with care – two thin layers are better than one thick one. Always press the product into the skin – dab, don’t drag.

Finishing Touches: Make It Last

  • Setting powder – mattifies and sets (especially the T-zone)
  • Setting spray – blends layers and adds life back to the skin

A Few Final Tips:

  • Dry skin? Use hydrating foundation, avoid matte powders.
  • Oily skin? Choose matte foundation and a bit of loose powder.
  • Mature skin? Avoid heavy textures, opt for a luminous finish and less product.
  • Craving a natural look? Choose light/medium coverage with a “second skin” effect.

Most importantly – no rules that restrict you

Makeup should be your tool, not a limitation.
Sometimes all you need is a touch of concealer and blush – and you’re ready.
Other days, you want the full glam – and that’s perfectly fine too.
What matters most is that it’s your choice.
